Microsoft and Dell have been trying to close a $2 billion dollar gap in the PC market.
Now, according to reports, they’re talking to investors to sell off their business.
Sources familiar with the talks say that a deal could be in the works with Microsoft to sell some of its PC business and some of the other assets of its business unit.
Microsoft has been under pressure for years to shed its PC unit and focus more on smartphones and cloud computing.
In April, the company announced plans to cut about a third of its workforce by 2020, with the layoffs expected to take place by the end of the year.
Now the company is looking to sell its PC and cloud business.
It could be that Microsoft could sell off some of those assets, and it could also be that Dell is in the running for the business, sources said.
Sources say that Microsoft has already discussed selling off its PC division.
Sources say the company has also been talking to potential investors to take the business public.
The company’s stock is currently down about 4% after the company’s quarterly earnings report was released on Wednesday.
